Fitment, in plain terms

Built for the 1996–2002 Toyota 4Runner, the N180/N185 3rd generation, and not for 1990–1995 2nd gen trucks. Our tail lights install in the stock, factory location — the same spot your 3rd gen came from the factory with.

What it does

Our bulb reference says these run a clear or factory-style lens with standard bulbs, so the familiar bulb rules apply — most of all at the turn signal, where a clear lens won't tint a plain white bulb the way a colored lens does.

Install notes

  • Tail and brake: typically a dual-filament bulb in the 7440/7443 family — dim for running lights, bright for brake.
  • Reverse: commonly a 921 (T15) style bulb, though some trims and lens combinations use a 7440-family bulb.
  • Behind a clear lens, use an amber-tinted bulb in the turn signal position.
  • Pull an old bulb before you order replacements: the number stamped on its base beats any generic chart.

Questions before you buy

Why do my turn signals blink fast after switching to LED bulbs?

That's hyperflash, not a defect. The factory flasher relay is calibrated around incandescent bulbs; LEDs draw a fraction of that current, and the relay reads the drop as a bulb-out fault. Standard fixes: a resistor (a load equalizer) wired in parallel with each LED bulb, or an electronic, LED-compatible flasher relay.

Should I get these or the Black LED Tail Lights?

These ($149.99) replace faded, cracked, or water-stained originals with standard bulbs, without changing the truck's character. The Black LED Tail Lights ($239.99) are a smoked, complete LED assembly with the color built into the light itself.

What does shipping cost, and can I return them?

$39.98 flat-rate US shipping, tracked. Tail lights mount to a specific truck, and our Return Policy is plain: “Anything that mounts to a specific truck is final sale once shipped”. Unsure about fitment? Email us before you order.
