Fitment, in plain terms
Fits 1996–2001 3rd gen 4Runners (N180/N185) only: it does not fit the 2002 model year, or 1990–1995 2nd gen trucks. The model year on your title or door jamb sticker settles which side of the line you're on.
What it does
Dedicated, secured space for the smaller stuff you don't want rattling loose or visible through a window: tools, recovery shackles, a first aid kit — anything you'd rather not lose to a smash-and-grab at a trailhead. Our cargo storage guide adds that the ladder-and-box approach keeps the rest of your cargo floor free, so a cooler, a dog, or a full load of camping gear still fits flat.
Good to know
It pairs with the Rear Hatch Ladder, which shares the same 1996–2001 fitment: ladder for roof access, box for small secured storage. For sleeping in the truck, that's drawer/platform territory — the ladder and box don't address sleeping space.

Questions before you buy
Will it fit my 2002 4Runner?
No. The cargo box is 1996–2001 fitment only and does not fit the 2002 model year. If you are not sure which you have, check before you order; we are glad to confirm fitment first.
Can I add a drawer system later?
Yes. Our cargo storage guide says the two solve different problems — small secured storage versus full organized cargo and sleeping — and most owners can layer a drawer system in later without redoing the ladder or box.
What does shipping cost, and can I return it?
$49.99 flat-rate US shipping, tracked. The box mounts to a specific truck, and our Return Policy is plain: “Anything that mounts to a specific truck is final sale once shipped”. Email us before you order if you are unsure about your truck.
